One of only two locations in the world capable of fully restoring a classic Mercedes-Benz, the new Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in Long Beach, CA brings specialized German engineering to US car enthusiasts. The Classic Center focuses on exceptional attention to detail, and the knowledge behind the brand makes this center a premier destination for car lovers.
Built within an existing 1-million SF hangar, the new Classic Center building itself covers a staggering 61,500 SF footprint. On top of the 20,000 SF of vehicle storage, the center features 41,500 SF of auto restoration and maintenance areas, a museum-like showroom, processing bay and retail experience. Any resources the team could need to expertly complete a restoration are available within the shop: full working service bays with in-ground car lifts, testing areas, a full machine shop, paint booth and prep areas, an upholstery department, specialty storage areas, car storage areas, and a parts department. Hendy’s Science and Technology studio worked hand-in-hand with Mercedes-Benz to create the ideal layout focusing on workflows, traffic flows, equipment placement, clearances and functionality. The service center is the showpiece of the space with full visibility from the showroom, so Hendy was asked to include design components to integrate the working areas along with the customer-facing areas all in a seamless but safe environment.
