Home to One Digital’s rapidly growing West Region, the new space located in Irvine, CA worked to combine several strategic acquisitions into one location. With a distinct culture it was important for the space to support the company values of fresh thinking, teamwork, accountability, innovation and genuine enthusiasm for their purpose. Uniting three offices under one roof provided the perfect opportunity for a fresh start for all three groups and built the foundation for a successful future.

Describe workspace types.
The space has offices and workstations with several other options, so employees are not tethered to their desks. Employees can choose different styles of focus rooms each with a unique theme and furniture choice. There also are several collaboration zones within the open office for meetings that do not require acoustic privacy.
What kind of meeting spaces are provided?
Many variations! From soft seating options to traditional style rooms with conference tables. The idea is to allow employees to choose what they prefer and feel most comfortable.
What other kinds of support or amenity spaces are provided?
The project has an expansive patio area, fitness space and cafeteria. The One Digital space has green walls, break rooms equipped with coffee stations, a multi-purpose area for training and a space for yoga classes and games like shuffleboard.
Has the project achieved any special certifications (i.e. LEED, WELL, Living Building Challenge)?
No, however many wellness features were incorporated into the One Digital workspace such as a Biophilic design including green walls, natural materials and a floor plan designed to bring in ample natural light and outdoor views. Sit stand desks also were incorporated.
What is the projects location and proximity to public transportation and/or other amenities?
The Metrolink commuter train is located 1.5 miles away. The Walk Score is 50 and Bike Score is 71.
Was the c-suite involved in the project planning and design process?
The local leaders were involved in the project. This location is a regional office.
What kind of programming or visioning activities were used?
Hendy encouraged the One Digital team to think in terms of space to support work instead of space by rank. This was a key programming theme.
Were any pre-planning surveys conducted to get employee input?
Employees were asked if they would use stand-up desks or not and they also voted on workstation design.
Were there any other kind of employee engagement activities?
Employees submitted suggestions for conference and meeting room names and voted on their favorites.
Was there any emphasis or requirements on programming for health and wellbeing initiatives for employees?
Yes, the space was designed with a walk and talk pathway to encourage movement, as well as sit/stand desks. Living walls were used as well as natural materials. The floor plan was designed to allow natural light and views for all. There also is a robust wellness program developed by One Digital’s internal wellness committee which includes monthly group activities and educational training seminars.
Were there any special or unusual construction materials or techniques employed in the project?
One Digital was looking for a space with natural and industrial materials combined. Corrugated metal that was painted was used as a digital display to incorporate the industrial but also add texture in an affordable way. Also, off the shelf metal screens were used and painted to create a light fixture element over the hospitality bar. Other light fixtures used were a basic clean style but positioned in a way that adds interest to the space. Careful consideration was taken to ensure light levels were consistent throughout this nonlinear layout.
What products or service solutions are making the biggest impact in your space (i.e. furniture manufacturer brands, task chairs, space reservation systems, etc. Please mention brands and link whenever possible)
Collaboration spaces: huddle rooms and pods have allowed small groups to come together in a more comfortable atmosphere.
What kind of branding elements were incorporated into the design?
There is digital messaging in the space displayed through monitors. Also, magnetic white boards were infused into the space to create a destination for One Digital’s rotating corporate culture events and initiatives.
Are there any furnishings or spaces specifically included to promote wellness/wellbeing?
Sit Stand Desks and a pathway designed to encourage walk and talk meetings.
What kinds of technology products were used? (i.e. AV / collaboration / communication / wayfinding / space utilization)
The One Digital space features Zoom technology with cameras so that meetings can be held as a group anywhere.
overall project results
If the company relocated to a new space, what was the most difficult aspect of the change for the employees?
Lack of privacy in the new workstations as they are smaller than the previous formats.
How did the company communicate the changes and moves?
Leadership provided regular updates to foster enthusiasm and detailed instructions including photos and maps to ensure a seamless first-day commute. A moving company came into the office to provide a “how to pack” training for employees. Employees were encouraged to visit the site during construction to view the progress first-hand.
